Self-control, not
parental control.

When we make decisions for our kids, they’re not learning for themselves. Screenable is rethinking parental controls from the ground up to help parents raise tech-healthy kids.

OUR FIRST OFFERING

Kid-Led Screen Time

Start with trust, start with “yes” 🫶

Kids need training, not blocking. Once you’ve set some rules together, let them make the daily decisions. The mess-ups along the way are perfect learning opportunities.

Reduce conflict and stress 🙌

Kids can self-grant more screen time, so they feel trusted – and you avoid twiddling with settings or “more time” requests. You’ll stay notified so you can help shape better decisions.

Modern parents need modern tools 👊

Traditional parental controls were built on old-school, authoritarian parenting styles. They force compliance at the expense of true growth. Parents, it’s time to update our approach.

How it works 👇

🚀

1 Set some rules

Decide on some rules in the Screenable app together. Don’t worry, we’ll guide you at each step.

📨

2 Kids make the call

Kids get reminded at their daily limits but are given the choice to stop or not. You stay informed.

👩‍👧

3 Block when needed

If kids struggle, turn on Blocking Mode to temporarily stop them from going over limits.

👫

4 Build trust and habits

Kids practice making good decisions, and over time (actually!) develop healthy habits.

 FAQs

  • We believe that traditional parental controls aren’t working for us modern parents. They’re hard for parents to manage, create conflict in the home, and don’t actually build healthy habits in our kids. Screenable is the first parental “controls” that is kid-led and built on trust. It’s the one we use ourselves, with our own kids.

  • Apple’s Screen Time is a traditional parental controls solution that lets parents set schedules and limits to block apps or device usage. The best thing about it is that it’s free and built-in.

Screenable is built on Apple’s Screen Time API, so it’s as “built-in” as it can get. But it starts with a more modern parenting approach, premised on trust, teaching kids through practice, and avoiding much of the conflict between parents and kids. Learn more about our approach ➜

  • Bark is also a parental controls solution that got its start monitoring kids’ social media to alert parents about posts that could be harmful, which is where it excels. It can be a good tool for kids of certain ages and situations.

Screenable is about kid-led tools that bring parents and kids together to work towards healthy screen time and media habits for lasting change. Learn more about our approach ➜

  • For now, kids must have iPhones or iPads (iOS 15+). We plan to expand to Android/Kindles and other devices in the future. Learn more about specific compatibility ➜

  • As many as you like! (Well hang on – how many kids do you have?? 😉) Contact us if you have any questions.

  • We use the Apple Screen Time API to measure app and device usage. Due to their limitations, we sometimes can’t support everything we’d like, but they are improving the API over time which should open up more capabilities in the future.

  • Privacy is deep in the ethos of our company. In order to provide the Screenable service, we collect and use device information and app usage data (such as screen time) from your child’s device. We will not disclose this information to third party entities except when required by law or to run our service. We may also disclose anonymized, aggregate data. Please read more in our Privacy Policy, and let us know if you have any questions!
